Here is a quick video I did when I got my new K&L 500R lift in my then new garage. I had used a foot pump lift from Harbor Freight for years. It was OK, but no where near as nice and solid as this. And of course, it's nice to not pump. This one is electric, but they make air powered ones.
With a bit of searching you can find great deals on these. In my experience, much cheaper than the Handy ones.

The HF lift with a Condor wheel chock makes the HF unit a far superior piece of equipment. I can wheel most of my bikes on the ramp and leave them sitting there without strapping them down and step off the bike and do whatever. I strapped it down once when I was doing some twiddling around but I got tired of screwing with the straps and then realized they werent really needed anymore.

Not shown in the photo but I have one of those center-stand 500 poound screw jacks that allows me to do rear maintenance, and if I ever need to do front end maintenance I have some lift hooks on the back of the lift, so I can move the bike backwards on it, lift it on the jack and pull out the panel that gives you access to the jack, and then I ratchet the back down and use that opening to dip the rear tire enough to allow me to remove the forks if necessary...

This is the same one I use. It's brilliant and very affordable. Makes wheel removal/tire changes a snap.

Best part is that it fits in tight quarters. The foot operated jack makes steadying the motorcycle while picking it up with the lift, very easy.

Mention has been made of the Condor wheel chock. The professional engineer who designed this, and other motorcycle-related storage and transport devices, has some very clever designs.

I like his ramp for loading your bike, even a dresser, into your truck, and then the ramp can hang from the 2" receiver hitch. Or, if you need additional space to haul other bikes, it is a trailer. If you don't need to haul but one and want to save on tolls for the trailer, let it sit on the receiver hitch.

I saw this and the company head, at Destination Daytona ( the H-D dealership) last year. His stuff is very well-built and anyone needing a bike dolly, a wheel chock, a ramp, a trailer should check-out his products.

Seeing the ramp/trailer work in a video is surpassed by seeing it in-person, which I did.

I have a Handy that is 28 years old. Back when I got it it was pricey and the best you could get at the time. No regrets as I have done tons of work on it. Now there is a lot of choices and that's good. Whatever you choose I recommend the side extensions as they will allow you to work on a lot of different powered vehicles. Now that I'm older I appreciate not having to work down low. I also have a two post auto lift that I use a lot. I don't mind chassis and exhaust work as long as I don't have to stand on my head.

From your screen name, someone likes the 1960's 'catalog store' bikes. Got any Sears Mojave dual-purpose bikes? They were Benellis. A very-handsome bike.

I agree, for most people the HFT lift is an inexpensive way to get your bike up to a comfortable working level.

What lift would you guys recommend for me? My stall is 6x11, maybe 7x11, with an 8-foot ceiling height. I need a lift that goes straight up, not up and forward. That puts me out of an HF unit. I'm thinking a scissor type lift.

I've had a J & S Jacks motorcycle lift for four years and it's been fantastic. Easy to use, rock-steady, and made in USA. Space is tight in my garage, so my Harley FXRT is stored on the jack whenever I'm not riding. Makes it easy to roll around, even over expansion grooves in my floor. If you don't have room for or don't want a full size lift table, I'd encourage you to take a look. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I have this same unit. I have never had a motorcycle on it, I thought it was not stable enough for my liking. I have used it for lawnmower and rototiller maintenance.

I completely understand how you get that. I had to get creative with a few of my bikes to use the HF lift jack. I also use mine with lawn and garden equipment.

Nice looking lift! Still came in under HF prices and the satisfaction of doing it yourself....priceless!

I got a Handy in the 90s, still works great. Gave a HF lift to my brother for his chopper... my bike was too heavy for it anyway.

Also have a steel frame that lines up with some points on the engine/frame that allow 360* access to the bike. Lift the roller with the Handy, slide in the framework, and you just free'd up a lift and now you have storage for long term projects.

The shiny bike needs an oil pump, so the motor has to come out.
And as you can see, it is a catch-all for the other projects in the shop.
