Hey All,

I'm looking for a storage bin to put 2 sets of wheels in during transport to/from the track on race weekends. I have a 6.5' x 10' open utility trailer that's home made and very sturdy. My wheels measure approximately 24" in diameter. Would be great if the bin was enclosed and made of plastic/polycarbonate.

I've searched online and the ones that are within my size range are failrly expensve, around $200+. A little out of my price range.

Any recommendations???

Here's a pic of my trailer and it would go in between the SV and the TTR. Sorry I can get the damn pic right side up.

Homemdae plywood crate would be somewhat cheap and made to fit your exact space. Could be made weather proof with a coating of truck bed liner.

Hey Brian! I'd like them to be enclosed/water proof because if/when I'm trailering it to the track I don't want them to get wet. Sounds crazy however.....that's the OCD in me.

What about something long & narrow down one side? Something out of 1/4" ply & glass/resin, with a plastic decking board top, hinged to open to the outside. You could fasten it to the side and floor w/through-bolts so you could remove it if you needed the space. You should be able to fit 4 wheel/tires down one side, and the controlling width would be whatever is the widest rear wheel, + maybe 1 or 2 inches. You could make it in two pieces so you wouldn't have one long, ungainly piece, a front half, and a rear half, or just two separate containers might be easier, each capable of holding a pair of tires, positioned front-to-back. Think like an ammo can, but larger.

What are you pulling it with? Get a cap if it's a pickup truck. Unless your bed is full as well.... I have mounted diamond plate truck tool boxes to the front of trailers before. They work great because they are dry and they lock. Don't know if your wheels would fit in a truck toolbox or not. I doubt it. I have picked them up pretty cheap on Craigslist.

as a fellow track rider, i just throw my spare wheels/rains in the back of my 4runner. No real easy way to store them on a trailer.

good luck with your search
