Motorized blinds/curtains? DIY ideas?

Hello everyone,

I'm moving into a new (to me) home, and the previous owners have taken all the curtains with them (no big deal, it wasn't stated in the contract).

I've always been a 2" white wood blinds kinda guy in all of my previous homes, but the previous owners of this new home had a very "nice and modern" look to their large/long curtains.

While I can go ahead and put in new curtains or blinds, in the back of my mind I've always wanted to do a home project where I have motorized blinds or curtains, for all the windows. It's not really a necessity, and it's fairly easy enough to walk to all the windows and open them up, but I always thought it'd be neat to wake up in the morning and "open up" the house all at once.

Has anyone tackled a project like this? I won't be able to (easily) run wiring to all of the windows, and I don't exactly want to spend a fortune on this endeavor. But I am fairly handy at most things...

If anyone has any DIY ideas, or simple systems that you've bought in the past that have worked well for you, please feel free to post!

Thanks folks!

look up somfy smart motors. I used somfy wifi motors in my screened in porch. lots of manufacturers use them. the most challenging part is the housing.

Anything that was attached to the house should have been left unless explicitly excluded in the contract. You should have done a final walk through before signing and not gone forward until you got some compensation. You should call your agent and complain, but probably too late now. Hindsight.

Somfy really is the cream of the crop. Their motors are used by virtually all their competitors.

Hello, thanks for the advice, but it's misguided. You lack a significant amount of information since you are not part of the transaction. No hindsight here. But this is not part of the discussion.

I'd seen the somfy stuff before and had done some research on them (a couple?) years ago, but never fully did anything worthwhile. I'll have to look into them a little more now. Thanks for the confirmation
