Mount Wilton with Lugnuts

Just thought I would share my method of mounting up my new Wilton 1755 vise. The vise calls for a 5/8" bolt to mount to the workbench. I happened to have some old flange style lugnuts sitting around that have a 5/8" flange, so I bought some 1/2-20 bolts from the hardware store and ran them from underneath so that the lugnut could screw down from the top.

I think it looks pretty nice. I had some new ones as well but the shiny chrome didn't look right in this application.

Now, I know that 1/2" is not going to be as strong as the 5/8" that it calls for, but I don't foresee any issues given my home use application.

I also made some aluminum jaws to keep from marring my work. :bounce:
Let's see if I can link to an image given my low post count...

I second the vote! Good use of your thinking cap there. How much was the new vise, and it came in black ?

Thanks for posting the idea!

That's a very good idea. I second the vote. Did the new Wilton come in black, and how much was that ? I like the aluminum inserts as well.

Thanks, Shawn

I really like that.

A note to those who may copy, make sure that you have flange nuts. Trying to use a tapered nut may split out the hole in the base.

The vise is their 75th anniversary deal that kinda looks dark grey to me. It also includes a sledge hammer. I picked it up for $319 shipped, but it has since gone up.
