Mounting 3R panel indoors??

OK guys

Budget is getting tight on finishing up my build for the electrical.

I have this GE 100 amp PowerMark Gold panel that looks to never have been installed. Other than the breaker slots being punched out no exterior knock outs have been touched.


My question is how would I mount this box in my attached garage?
Mounted to interior front wall. On plywood and bring Romex out of wall into panel?

Can you bring the romex down the wall and into the back of the panel? It's been over 20 years since I installed an outdoor load center, but we used to come in the back through a 2" or 2-1/2" pvc male adapter. If you bring everything in the top, you are going to have to drill a bunch of holes in it. If you come in the sides, it's going to look like ****.

I can, I want to know what will work for passing electrical inspection purposes.

The wall will also eventually be the fire wall between the house and garage. If that makes a difference on how it is done.

The fire wall won't make a difference. At least not around here. You may want to make a call to the inspector. There is a chance he would consider bringing all the wires in through a single hole to be bundling. Like I stated, it's been over 20 years since I installed one, but that's how we did it when I was slinging wires in Dallas. It would give you a clean look, and if you ever wanted to add anything else, there will be nothing in the way to prevent you from running conduit on the surface.

Mine is on plywood bottom fed. All in conduit so that the everything is tight. My area does not require inspection.

Bundling is considered to 24" or more, and wouldn't take place in this scenario.
Of greater concern is that NM connectors are limited in the number of cables that can be run through them (usually 2)

I personally would try to sell that panel, if it hasn't been installed before, and put the money towards a new 100 amp indoor panel. They dont cost that much. It will look alot better

Yeah that maybe the way to go - easier for sure

Bundling isn't the right word. I used to run everything through a 2" male adapter. I have heard some inspectors won't let that fly, they say too many wires in the hole. I have personally never been failed or reprimanded for it though.

this is really the way to go. Even if you don't sell the 3R panel, a 100 amp main breaker panel is less than $50.
