Mounting 50K big maxx?

I'm plannining on installing a Big Maxx 50k unit in my garage. There is a little cubby in the corner (18" deep x 55 wide") of my garage where I'd like to install it and have it pointed out towards garage at a 45. There is living space above garage so I'm going to horizontal vent it out the back wall. My trusses are 24" on center with the 1st one 16" from the side wall. See diagram. The ceiling is finished sheet rocked and taped. I was thinking I'd mount a 4x4 sheet of 3/4" plywood and lag bolt that to the truss. Then either mount unistrut to the plywood or directly bolt the heater to the plywood? Thoughts?

I did just as you described and ran some plywood across trusses and used construction lags to hold everything in place. I mounted the heater to the plywood at that point. It is rock solid on the ceiling now.

I didn't have the living space, only the space in the Trusses. I spanned the UniStrut up there. Didn't think about the Plywood Idea!

Doesn't there need to be space above the heater...like 6" or so?

You can use plywood but you can also simply screw 2 lengths of perforated angle strapping to the ceiling and then mount the heater to that. Put a carriage bolts through first so they are hanging down. Some use threaded rod. As I recall - but could be wrong - you want at least 1” clearance to the ceiling above the heater.

I skipped the plywood idea and used unistrut. I thought I had to run the unistrut parallel with the front of the heater and in the space I wouldn't be able to hit the trusses. I mounted them perpendicular and was able to hit trusses and mount the unit up. Had to offset it a bit to get the 18" clearance on the left side.

Can you tell me what size your garage is? Trying to decide if I go with a 50k for my 24x36 and am also in MN.

Its about 27x25.
