I don't think there's any issue. I've had mine mounted the same way for a couple of years.

You may be living on borrowed time. I would at least put a strap in the center up against the stud to hold it up. Vibration over time may cause the 90* elbow to fail.

Use it for point of use applications. Put a couple feet of rubber hose and a male coupler on the inlet and a female coupler on the outlet. Plug the unit into an outlet and hang it on a hook beside the outlet or by a hook from the outlet coupler.
