Mounting an air compressor on a wall

I have a Craftsman 30gal vertical air compressor and it currently sits on the ground. I'd love to get it up off of the ground and mount it on the far wall, furthest from the house, so when it runs, it doesn't sound like someone is trying to cut through the house with the world's largest buzz saw! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to mount it? I was thinking on a wooden or metal shelf, but tethered to the wall to keep it from shaking off the shelf. I also though about trying to find some rubber cushions/feet to mount it on to help dampen the vibrations.

Any suggestions and/or pics?

Thanks for the help!

Jim

I'd think it would rumble through the house even more if mounted on the wall.

Yeah, That will only make it sound worse. You just turned your shop into a giant speaker.

Might want to think about making a cover for it, an insulated box that fits over the top, leave some vents for circulation of air. If you are only using for 1 or 2 cycles, don't bother with the vents. Those compressors are known to be very loud.

I would just build a cabinet around it and make sure to isolate the compressor from the floor.
Also, if you have an oiless compressor you should sell it and get a traditional oiled compressor.

I know...I'm not happy with the oilless compressor, but I can't afford to replace it right now. Soon though, I hope!

I mainly wanted to get it up off of the ground to give me more garage floor space. Plus, I rarely need to get to it to make any adjustments to air pressure or whatever, so out of my way won't be a problem. I had thought about building a wooden shelf to set it on with rubber feet and maybe build a cabinet around it to help quiet it down. My brother had stuck his in the attic of his garage, but I don't think I want to do that. Too much work and I don't think it'd fit thru the opening.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Don't think a wall is stiff enough to control noise unless it is poured concrete. How about making a closet, assuming you have high ceilings, & mounting the compressor above it? Studs in compression would be better than studs in bending (hanging a compressor off the stud).

Damn. Big buzz box on the wall too. The heater is pretty high as well. Looks kinda micky duck.

I'm betting this is a vertical oiless - putting it on a wall will only make it worse. Closet with a lot of sound deading inside and mounted on a isolation platform would be the only reasonable attempt I can think of.

mines not exactly mounted on the wall,
but it is off the floor.

bunch of scrap tubing and angle iron, some plywood, and a few screws.

my intention was to free up the floor space it was taking up.

that worked out great, however now all the noise is at ear level WTF
