Mounting bolts On Snap-On KRL Side Locker

Looking for any hidden secrets to mounting a KRL locker.

I swapped a KRL 1012 from one box to another yesterday and the bolts that held it to the lower fell down the channel inside.

I removed the handle in order to mount it on new the box and the bolts are 1/4 20 thread, but i don't know how long or if they have a special setup.

So far I have not been able to fish the bolts out or find a bolt that will thread into this blind hole. It almost looks like there is nothing to thread into, but I did take the handle off.:dunno:

I will check again to make sure it is lined up. I want to make sure they are at least bolted together at the handle area for safety reasons.

Someone said that there may be some washers to install at the bottom as well to help it line up correctly. There was no indication of that when it came apart.

Thanks,

Well a little update. A little more patience and a little less help from a friend I discovered that the locker was forward about an 1/8 inch or so. Just enough that the mounting thread was blocked.

I was able to get one long bolt in place temporarily until I can get the correct ones and then I will have to raise the front to line the other one up.

The bolts will have to be 3/8 hex head or allen head with washers. The access holes are too small for a thin wall socket to use for a standard 7/16 head. Nice design.

When I installed mine, the included paper work wasn't very clear on how everything bolted up. Apparently at the bottom your supposed to drill a hole in the toolbox to bolt the locker to the box. I couldn't bring myself to do that so I just placed the nylon washers/spacers in between there to get the proper alignment. Don't try looking on the website, no info there either.

Re: Mounting bolts On Snap-On KRL Side Locker

Thanks any idea what type of bolts/head they shipped with it?

I actually think that it is sinful for a snap-on design engineer to an access hole to a bolt that won't fit a standard socket.

While trying to dig out the bolts that fell down the channel (again, limited access) there are 2 indents in the bottom lip that looks like where they want you to drill and install sheet metal screws.:dunno:

I do not use the bolts on mine either. I hang mine on the upper edge and use rubber pads that are double side taped onto the side cab near the bottom of the boxes. Like you, I could not bring myself to drilling holes into the cab. Just couldn't do it!

I can't remember exactly what bolts came with it, but when I get to the shop in the morning I can take a look and let you know.

Thanks, I like the idea of rubber pads. I have some old mouse pads that I think may be the right thickness.

That clip that holds on the the lip is just barley on so I want to take extra precaution. I probably will be moving the setup in a few months with a tow truck

What size head did they have? a standard 1/4 20 x 5/8 has a 7/16 head and a thin wall socket will not fit into the access hole.

I am guessing that a 3/8 head pan type head is what I need. Like I said I never saw them.

Thanks.

I know this thread is old but I have krl side locker I need to mount. Does it just hook to the side of the tool box lip? It seems I would have to lift the top of the toolbox to hook it on. Any help would be great. Thanks

Maybe 3m emblem tape if you move your box very often ( or ever)
