Mounting cabinets on a metal (ribs) wall

I'm sure it has been covered here a thousand times, but my results with the search function here aren't great (everything I search for turns up the "VISES of GJ" and "What did you do in your garage today" threads).

I'm looking for suggestions on mounting things to the wall of my (now being built) shop. I'm having the inside lined with metal sheeting, the same as they are installing on the outside. It is ladder frame construction, so I have good wood to screw into. The ribs seem to be about an inch tall (guesstimate).

What does everyone use for a 'spacer" so you don't crush the ribs? My thoughts are to install fasteners between the ribs into the lateral 2 x 4's.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

-John

Some metal profiles have corresponding fillers available. I don't know if they will support another wood strip or the cabinet itself, but they would fill the gap. Normally used to close the top end of the sheets at the ridge cap.

I've installed several cabinets on the steel liner walls in my shop and had no issue. Just need to make sure the cabinet bridges several of the ribs. Those steel panels are surprisingly strong.

But, if you're really concerned you could go the Unistrut route. It would be more expensive than furring strips but would be more versatile and semi-modular. Install the Unistrut vertically between the ribs and mount the cabinets to the Unistrut using the spring loaded nuts.

Do you have any photos of the wall framing, before the steel was installed?

You need to ensure the framing is adequate to handle the load of the cabinets.

I don't have any pictures right now, but the walls are framed with 2 x 8 construction. We should be good!
