I'm trying to get stuff together to make some progress when time permits, 10 hr days 6 days a week leave me not much time.

Anyway, what do you guys use as mount blocks for exterior lights? I know vinyl siding has them. I was considering using those, but I'm open to suggestions. So far where I want to mount lighting outside falls partway on a ridge, there lies my problem.

A pic would help. I mounted my under soffit motion lights right to the soffit board. Just drilled a hole for the wire. On a gable on siding, I would probably consider using a 4" old work box that I could seal up to the siding.

Depending on your needs and height issues, you may try this. I have some in soffits, and a few on the gable ends of the house and shop. I put the gable ends by drilling through the facia boards and mounting a back plate.

I always do what is called by some a plinth block. It is just an appropriate sized block of wood with a hole cut for a 3/0 or 4/0 round box. The box flush mounts to the plywood on the house and the block mounts to the plywood over the box. Then you side to the block. This is pretty much the only way to do a good job.
