Mounting T8 fixtures together

I'm planning on mounting three 8' T8 light fixtures end to end in my shop. Basically making a 24' run of lights. What is common practice for mounting them end to end?

Mine have 1/2" knockouts on each end. I picked up some box spacers at Menards to put in between each fixture to mount them together, see below link:

http://www.menards.com/main/electri...-fittings/1-2-box-spacer/p-1442229-c-9538.htm

I believe this would work, but there'd be a small gap in between each fixture. A buddy of mine just took a standard straight connector and removed the set-screw and installed it from the inside of one fixture, so the threaded end was on the outside, the slid the other fixture on, secured them together with the nut and added the plastic bushing nut. This seems like it'd work too and keep them tight together. Or is there a better way to do this?
Thanks!

You can use a conduit ****** and nut to connect the 2 fixtures together. Would also be wise to use a plastic bushing on the exposed threads of the ******.

Take a look at the end of the fixture. All the ones I buy, you leave the end plate off the end of the fixture and slide it into a groove inside the fixture. Then you slide the groove of the next fixture onto the same end plate. Then one screw through the back of each fixture into the end plate anchors the fixtures together and keeps them from pulling apart.

I used box spacers just like yours when I did my shop (4 fixtures end-to-end in each row.)

I did have to get a bicycle wrench to hold the box spacer while tightening the nuts on each side.

Thanks Guys! I used some Conduit ******* as suggested and they worked great. Pulled the light fixtures tight together.
