Mounting the Whale

I have never seen this vise mounted. I intend to put it onto a portable stand to use out near the vehicles etc that I work on. It will be mounted on a sheet of 1/2 mild steel that will have room for a small anvil and places to put small projects and lay down a tool or two - probably hang some hammers etc on the base. Like in the first photo.

Anyway, should I cut out the sheet to fit around the 45 degree projection on the base (second photo) or . . . ?:dunno:

No, you want the bolted surface of the vise mounting surface close to the post and nothing extending past the stationary jaw surface.
