I am going to be installing some strong wall mounted shelves in the garage to store truck tires (4 normal size truck tires without wheels). I 100 percent know that there is a shear wall behind the drywall in the garage that I want to install the shelf on. So the construction of that wall is 5/8" drywall, 1/2" OSB (shear wall), 2 x 6" studs. Builder told me this and I verified today by cutting out a small piece of drywall between the studs.
For the shelves, they came with 2.5" lag bolts. With the construction of my garage wall, the lag bolts would be approximately 1.25" into the studs beyond the OSB (accounting for the thickness of the metal bracket). Is this sufficient or should I get longer bolts?
