I never liked the OEM 1940 Ford gas filler. It looked like so little thought had gone into the design. There was a 3 inch hold punched in the left rear fender with a piece of pipe sticking up through the hole. The end of the pipe was modified to hold a cap. The lump sticking out of the fender offended the otherwise nice body and fender line.
I chose to move the filler lower on the fender. I wanted a locking filler cap and the gas cap from a HONDA R1000RR was my choice.
This took some commitment and a little derring do when the time came to cut a hole in a perfectly good fender.
I had to machine out some pieces to match the Honda tank so the Honda gas cap would work properly.
Before installing the Honda gas cap in the fender, I bought a carbon fiber look cover for the cap. The carbon fiber look made the filler cap less obvious, to me.
This assembly has a port for the filtered tank vent and a drain-away tube for an over-fill situation.

That looks really clean. Rods always look better as you shave off more ugly stuff.

I usually don't care for fake carbon fiber, but in this application, it looks perfect.
