Moved compressor - something going on with motor

I had compressor in a basement. Moved to new garage. In order to move I had to remove head and motor from tank.

Today reconnected everything, but something going on with motor. See video, it's sparking inside and while doing it it slows down. Also, when pressure get's to like 70-80 it feels like motor struggling and electronics shutting it off. I have to turn off and back to AUTO and it runs for some time couple PSI and stops. Didn't get full tank, but motor got pretty hot.

Any ideas what is wrong? It's really simple wiring, I got it back same like it was...

So, motor overheating. I recorded another video. It slows down, then stops. When I run motor without load -it spins full speed just fine.

Whats the HP rating? Doesnt look like it has integral overload protection (is there a red reset button) and i dont see a motor starter.

That's a Quincy, probably good stuff, doubt moving it broke anything in the motor unless it was dropped.

Use a volt meter to verify proper voltage at those wire nuts. There should be a wiring diagram on the motor plate or so where showing how to wire it for single phase 120 or 240.

Does it plug in or hard wire to a box.? Verify that wiring too, might not be the compressor, perhaps there is a bad connection in a wall box. Since it spins I tend to think it's a bad connection as opposed to wired totally wrong.

Yeah what micromind said, as long as they are not flapping around or slipping they are tight enough. It's not like a v belt on an old car with less than 180* contact on a drive pulley and rapid rpm changes. Look for no slip on motor startup and you are good.

Should I use something? I have no idea. It's Quincy compressor, whatever is built in?
is there an overload button on the motor? if not then you run the risk of burning up your motor

since nothing tripped when you overloaded it with the improper wiring, im guessing there is no overload protection

can you take a pic of the motor labels.

theres 3 other labels on that motor that arent show in those pics. one above the nameplate and 2 on the cap cover. can you post a pic of the 3 labels

BTW i dont see a reset button the back of your motor. Is there a reset button anywhere on your motor?

I am not nearby, will try to snip a pic when I get home, but I don't recall reset button. There is 3 capacitors under top cover.

I wonder if pressure regulator switch serves as overload protection as well?
Condor MD3 31LA3EMX

As you see on video - it was shutting off before reaching top pressure.

looks like those pressure switches do have an overload option. you would need to check yours to see if it came with it

however, you have other issues as the PS is primarily rated for 3Ø. your motor is 1Ø & the switch has a max HP rating of 3HP for 1Ø, 7.5hp for 3Ø. so the switch is being overloaded. did this compressor originally have a 3Ø motor on it?

see page 38 on this manual

I got this compressor (link above) broken as-is. I have no reason to believe that something was changed and not original, so I think YES, this motor and switch came from a factory. Moreover, it's been working like this for 4 years just fine. I only changed pump when I got it (replaced with different one)

why wouldnt it be possible for the previous owner to change something on it?

regardless the PS isnt rated for the HP and we still dont know if it even has an overload relay

Those motors arent cheap. If it were mine, id be damn well sure it had the proper protection seeing as how it already overloaded without any intervention from an overload.

Just my guess. Compressor was pretty new. Owner said it's grenaded. Owner had used it for granite business, didn't look like "repair DIY" type. Thats why he sold it. I see no reason to believe someone messed with it.

How should overload intervene? The fact that it stopped way before reaching target pressure is not a protection? To me it makes total sense now.
