moving a 2 breaker disconnect

Hi,

I am looking to move a 2 breaker disconnect in my shop from one wall to the other. (probably a foot away from where it is now)

The disconnect powers an outlet used for pool equipment and I am adding a new service panel that I will be metering that I would prefer not to tie into so the pool equipment doesnt skew my data.

If I move the panel, can I lengthen the wire to the mini disconnect by putting a terminal box where the service comes in now and run a new longer wire to the disconnect?

You'll need a junction box (a rather large one depending on the size of your service), that has to remain uncovered, where the splices are.

Is the shop detached, or attached? I cannot cite Canadian code, but in the US, you would need a junction box that was accessible (the cover at least) and if a detached building (again referencing the NEC in the US) you would have to power the pool circuit off of the detached building power. You are not allowed to have more than one source of power running between buildings, so a feeder to the panel, and a branch circuit from the house to the shop to the pool (separate from the shop feeder) would not be allowed.

Normally true, but there are exceptions allowed, such as a for a separarately switched feeder (for example: to be able to switch on/off a light on the garage from the hosue.) This exception might allow for a separate feed that is metered separarately.

However, for safety there should be labels on the panels indicating there is more than one power source feeding the building.

I think that's only allowed if the switch loop is powered off of the garage panel.

Also, you can't use UF or direct bury cable to power the pool. Sounds like it's already in place though.

Shouldn't be a problem,just label it clearly as fed from the other source.
