Moving a dry van cost & advice needed

I have an old 40' van I've used to move from CA and for storage since. I'm going to move again and need some advice from someone who knows more than I do.

I want to buy a 53' van & am thinking of also replacing the 40' with another 53'. Haven't found anything close by & cheap yet but they're out there somewhere.

The 40' has been sitting for about 15 years, it moved once to Utah & sat a few years & then came here to New Mexico and has been sitting for 11 years. So in order to make it roadworthy I need 8 tires, probably 4 brake actuators and brakes themselves who knows. Rusted for together sure.

Seems like putting that kind of $$ into that trailer doesn't make much sense if I can find something that's currently roadworthy and larger.

And the other question, what's the current price of moving something like this about 800 miles? New Mex to Utah?

No suggestions needed that I may have too much stuff, I already know that.

Now I have it in 2 forums, anyway to get rid of this one?

We used to do short term leases on trailers when we needed them for product validations. The lease company provided roadworthy trailers, and we had no hassles. The programs usually lasted six months or so.

One of the Engineers was able to lease a similar trailer while he had a second story added to his house.

Have you considered shipping containers? Road worthy vans run 3 to 5 k in mediocre condition. It should be about 2 bucks or maybe 2.50 a mile one way

I intend to keep them so leasing is out. I've had shipping containers, no more on them.

Mileage is good, no problem with that price.

The vans are going to make one trip, this is the last time we move.

15 years, storage and 2 moves, you have gotten your value from the 40 footer, sweep it out, air up the tires and pedal it for whatever you can. Put what you sell the old trailer and what you would spend to make the 40 roadworthy and you should be close to what you will spend on a newer, more Cu Ft unit Somebody is always looking for cheep storage. A good used 53' with a current DOT inspection should be able to be had for 5k +- a little. Swift trans use to have a web site selling older equipment. Also check your area C/L and FB Marketplace, truck brokers, etc. Deals are out there if you have a little time and patience.
We are planing a move in about 11 months (Colorado to Tennessee) and just hooked up on a good deal for a older Kentucky air ride 50' drop deck moving van trailer with belly boxes. Multiple side doors. Vertical e-track though out for second flooring as needed. we have been quoted around 2.25 +- a mile to move it there. Great thing about owning is no cramped timeline to empty and return. With the house and garage, using on-way-rentals was out. Only about 10k lbs payload max per trip, would have needed 2-3 loads.

"No suggestions needed that I may have too much stuff, I already know that."

If I had a dollar for everybody that has told me that this move would be cost free. My stuff and I'm keeping it,LOL

Snip, my thought too. There is some value in the old 40', it's a drop floor so about 13' inside. Good storage but it's seen it's last trip. Someone will want it.

I look at CL & the local sale sites, something will turn up.

How did you find the hauler for $2.25? You're going further than I, only about 850miles for my move.
