I'm going to be making a move in a few months a few states away and will need to pack up my garage stuff and I'm of course nervous about it:lol:. How did you guys pack up your tool boxes? I have a three tier Craftsman tool box, that i'm thinking of boxing seperately with the tools removed. Did you guys box yours or not bother, should I remove the tools? Thanks:3gears:

I moved the heavy stuff from the top drawers to the bottom... other than that, up the ramp, lock the wheels, strap it down, and go.

I box each drawer separately, leaving the chest 90% empty. It's an opportunity to clean and reorganize, plus with the way movers have treated our things, I'm glad I've done this every time.

I've moved three times with my Craftsman stack also. I did like the others. locked the drawers, rolled it up the ramp onto the truck, strapped it down, and boxed it in with other stuff. Never a problem, but after each move I reorganized it anyway as I set up new workshop space.

I have a large Kobalt 41-inch set. Locked all the drawers. Used ratchet straps to tie the two sections together, using cardboard between the straps and the metal, wrapped the whole thing with plastic wrap (like they use for pallets) just in case the drawer lock failed. Loaded it into the truck, tied it down and drove off.

I removed everything before a move i did a while back and it made it a lot easier to accomplish the task with NO damage to my box and a good cleaning and waxing to boot. plus at over a ton on four wheels on a wooden truck floor taking the tools out gave me a little peace of mind. IMHO
P.S Good luck on your venture

I would take out the heavy stuff for peace of mind.. If you can roll it onto a truck then shrink wrap it and roll it on the truck and secure it down.

If you have to lay it flat, then everything has to come out.

I moved my old box with everything in it. Left all three boxes stacked, shrink wrapped it and rolled it on to the truck. The movers strapped it to the wall and packed around it.

I moved mine from Orlando to San Antonio (1,200 miles approx.)... an old MAC 34" wide upper & lower. I rolled it up the ramp, took the upper box off and strapped it down.
No problems !!

last time i made a long move, (1200 miles)
i left evereything loaded, moved top and mid boxes onto the floor of the uhaul, rolled 4 roller cabs up the ramp, wedged heavy cardboard between and behind the boxes, and strapped the roller cab's to the walls.

short moves, across town, i put top and mid boxes in the back of my truck, and roller cabs strapped down on my utility trailer.

i dont unload drawers unless i absolutely have to.

I use a ratchet strap in the middle of the box, going over the top and down the front to keep the drawers from moving. One time, I locked the cabinet, but it stuck and I had three drawers roll open as I was getting off an exit. Use a blanket or cardboard on the edges and under the ratchet to keep from funkin up the paint

My rolling box was the last thing I put on the trailer. I strapped it to the tailgate of the trailer. Didn't budge.:rocker:

I always wrap mine with 3 or 4 wraps of removalists cling wrap then strap it in, last move was 2500kms without a problem. When I moved my 3 tier box I left it assembled and just wrapped over the top of it. The tip about putting the heavy stuff in the bottom drawers is a good one.
