I am possibly moving back to the midwest, chasing money the life of an a&p. I was wondering what ya'll do to get your toolboxes across or if i should just sell it on consignment through my current dealer. It's a large 68" epiq and other than the toolbox I have no reason to get a uhaul being i've rented a furnished home the past two years out here in wa. I got a quote for right around 2k which would move all the stuff in my house that is mine along with the toolbox and I didn't think that was too terrible.

Anybody have exp with a move like this or secret freight company that can save me some money?

Thanks

I rented a truck from recently that had a lift gate. For something that is heavy like fully loaded box, I think that is the way to go. Take out the drawers and either put them on the deck, or empty the drawers, and put the drawers back in, so they don' get scratched banged around. The drawers have to be secured as well as the box. The box truck should mounts for straps. Also put some material between the straps and any finished surface, as the straps will leave marks, due to truck bouncing around hitting bumps, in the road. I would take pictures of the drawers, then put the contents of the drawers in buckets, a bucket for each drawer, storage bins sound better to me, as I type this, (thinking Rubbermaid). Maybe crate it and ship it, if it is the only thing that needs to be shipped.

Maybe a storage container like a pod. This will give you more time to secure and organize your stuff, when prepping to ship. Renting a truck they charge per day, besides mileage. The pod sounds like a good idea, maybe more cost effective. Good luck.

I rented 24' box trucks in our move from PDX. They charged by the day and that included mileage. I paid the fuel and just dropped them off after unloading.

I've done a few long moves, recently from TN to TX and have always rented a moving truck and did it myself. The problem with selling tools is you are always losing. If you plan on having a toolbox then selling it is a bad option. Try a small trailer like others have suggested. Maybe even check craigslist out for a used trailer. You may be able to find one that isn't much more expensive than leasing for a one way trip.

If you're happy with the quote, let the professionals move you. Just be sure you're insured.

I'm kinda lost on this one. Are you wanting to put all of your tools in cardboard boxes and move them and just get rid of the rollaway? Or are you wanting to get rid of everything? In either case, what do you plan to do the day you report to work at your new job? I'm sure your new employer hired you expecting you to show up with tools in a tool box, ready to work.

Try Fastenal they ship store to store reasonably.

As a side note I gave up on chasing the A&P life 10 years ago. I miss the work but not the BS.

I am working in a truck collision shop as one of the top techs and just was promoted to lead mech last year.

uship.com if you need another option.. OR, if you have a means to tow, rent or buy a small trailer - sell when you get there.. but i would jut let the moving co do it.. sometimes the money is worth no aggraviation..

When the wife and I had to haul a bunch of stuff, we bought a 4x7 utility trailer off craigslist for $250. One of the best investments we've made, considering we don't own a truck.

I wouldnt be selling my tools, but epiqs are pretty heavy. If i sold it i would have a new one on the way to my new shop before i left here. I got a good deal on a box that got repo'd I'm up money if i sell it. I do not drive a truck so a trailer is out of the question and I have no need to rent a uhaul or the like because i rent a furnished home here and would only be renting for my toolbox which does not make sense to rent a truck and a car dolly and pay the fuel to just move a box. And the truck would have to have a liftgate, epiqs are heavy and I dont have a forklift and or access to one.

Thanks for the advice, upack has given me the best quote so far just gotta finalize the details of the job offer and I may be on my way to the midwest.
