moving electrical boxes

the previous owner put an addition on the house and he made a closet to house the old service boxes, i want to move the electrical stuff to a new area, my question is can i use junction boxes, i have 3 boxes, 1 is the main service, 1 is for the well, and well i don't know what the 3rd box is for YET! can i use juction boxes??????

Sounds like you want to extend the existing wires from the "old" location to the "new" location?

Yes, you do that. Does this work require a permit in your area?

You can re-use junction, breaker and service boxes. If you don't use punch outs that have been opened up in metal boxes, they need to be covered with plugs. Available at big box and electrical supply houses for less than $0.50 each. Punch outs in plastic boxes that have been opened and not used means you need to replace the plastic box.

The wire extensions need to be nutted to the old wire and placed inside junction boxes. Pay attention to box fill and box grounding as well as how you dress the wires going into and out of the junction boxes. Obviously, the new wire extensions need to be same gauge as the old wire.

You also need to pay attention to access to the breaker and junction boxes. There are specific code requirements and access to breaker boxes and junction boxes need to be accessible without removing wall covering.

Yes junction boxes can be used. My understanding is you can gut the old panels and use them as junction cabinets. You'll need to fill the breaker knockouts with blank covers.

There is info in the FAQ's on how to post pics and images. It's not easy to understand for some. It gets easier as you do it.

When you post a reply, click go advanced and scroll down to additional options where you find manage attachments. Click on one of the choose file boxes and it will ask you where and what file. If your camera or card in connected, you can locate the pic you want by going to that device. Or you can upload the pic to your computer and locate it in your C: drive, usually under My Pictures. Some upload their pics to an Internet storage site and then use that file as the one to upload here.

When you have located your file (pic), just click upload and wait. If you want more than one pic in your post, just rinse and repeat.
