Moving light switches from behind drywall with conduit?

My grandmother just purchased a new home and the lights to the garage are down the steps behind the screen door. Very inconvenient for me and even more inconvenient for her!

Two switches in the wall. My first thought was to use a surface mount cheapy raceway to move the switches to the other side of the door, but I have all EMT conduit and THHN to pull this off.

Questions:

First of all, can I do this?
I'm thinking a steel box extension and then just surface mounting everything over the door, but I don't know what I need.

It's currently a plastic switch box installed, so I almost would need a mud ring or something... talking out loud.

I'm thinking a single gang would be this: http://www.thomasbetts.com/ps/fulltilt/index.cgi?part=5936112

But double gang seems difficult to find:

Or a RACO 250? From Zoro

The 1st link is a @#%*ing handy box, there is almost never a legitimate reason to use them, EVER !

Try these, but doubt you'll find them at HD. http://www.hubbellcatalog.com/raco/raco_datasheet.asp?PN=187&FAM=RacoBoxes&P=12842,11447,11449,1086

Another option is Wiremold® HD & maybe Lowes carries their products.

Use a 2 gang wiremold box with blank cover over the existing new work plastic boxes. Come out of the top side wiremold box with your 1/2" emt surface mounted on wall. The Wiremold box will trim the existing boxes so it looks decent (but not great!).

It will look better to just use WM 500 or 700 series raceway & the proper WM fittings would look better then surface EMT, plus the OP would have to punch their own hole(s) in the WM extension, also have to be very careful about wirefill w/ Wiremold.

Hmmm... maybe I'll take a better look at the wiremold stuff. I'll have one hot "line" two switch hot+neutral and a ground.
