So am crazy for doing this? I have a snap on 32" bottom chest and an 80s craftsman 26" box. I am thinking about putting all the tools i use daily (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc..) in the 26" and just keeping the things i dont use often (paint guns, sanders, pullers, etc..) in the large snap on. I like the idea of being able to move the smaller box around, not to mention i prefer a well oiled set of friction slides to ball bearings. What are you guys' thoughts before i go through with this?

Doesn't sound like your moving to a smaller box...just consolidating your more used tools in the smaller box, and less used tools in the bigger?

Sounds like a smart move to me.

How about adding a cart? The hf 4 or 5 drawer models are nice. I recently added one, I just take the tools I need with me instead of moving around your 26”

One thing I don’t like about large tool boxes is the top wide drawers gets too heavy. I’m surprised the design is so popular. They are great for storage but not so great to open and close constantly.

Once I learned that I was collecting and hording tools, I did put all the tools used every day in one box so I did not have to dig past the collections just to work on something. Makes a big difference.

Agreed. I don't understand the benefit of moving 200lbs of tools to get to a 1/4" drive socket. Perhaps I'm missing something.

I agree with you, I never understood having to open and close the biggest drawer of your tool box hundreds of times a day
