Very nice! I grew up near there. Close to the Dam Store. Went to high school in Berthoud.

Funny. My 9yr old LOVES saying “Look Dad, it’s the DAM store sign!”

I always tell him to watch his mouth! [emoji16]

I love the architectural style of your home and future shop! What a fantastic view as well. I just saw this for the first time today, so the house build was quick for me, LOL! Subscribed to stay on top of future updates as the shop begins to take shape. Looking great!!

Thanks for all the well wishes! Every step has been quite amazing. We’re so incredibly excited to have the shop FINALLY started. It kinda signifies completion. Although, are you ever really done?

Not sure what the program the architect used for the drawings. It’s pretty impressive though, as it allows you to virtually walk through the house. It was quite helpful with the initial design.

Well, the build is coming along nicely! I was just in our garage (the one we “store” everything. Busted my shin pretty good just trying to walk around. Can’t wait to move stuff into the new shop! Although that may be awhile off. Once we enclose the building (roof, windows and doors), we’ll have to stop to let the checking account recover. We’ll still have exterior finishes and solar to do. Then we’ll be able to look at plumbing, electrical, insulation and drywall. In all honesty, maybe this time next year???

PA: with your title I guess I kept passing on it thinking a member was building a cabin in Pennsylvania. BOY WAS I WRONG.

well I hope you don't mind me following along and even though i've only read a few posts and seen few of the pictures of your amazing home and garage build i'm IMPRESSED.

keep up the good work.

might I mention that a lot of really good builders quit or let's say retired early around 2007 when the banks and market stuck their noses up at them so maybe finding a retired builder that still has the skills and his knowledge that might be another option to finding a good person to help you finish your dreams. not sure about one that lives in Colorado, but maybe.

keep up the great work and looks AWESOME so far!!

Really liking your build. Some pics of your attached garage might keep us occupied while we wait on the ‘real’ garage to get done. Are you in a neighborhood where everybody has 30 or 40 acre lots?

Thanks! Is drivesitfar a reference to vehicles or golf? Hopefully motorcycles! [emoji6]

I appreciate the kind words. We’re super happy with how things are turning out. Not that we’ve been without problems. The contractor just realized that they put in a LVL instead of glulam in the detached shop. Oh brother! It’s an exposed beam and an LVL would look terrible. I think it was the lumber yard that sent the wrong one, but the contractor wasn’t around to catch it before the laborers put it up. What a terrible mistake. He said he’s going to replace it, but boy that doesn’t look like it’ll be easy. Oh well.

Thanks for circling back with updates on the shop; always good to see progress.

(a lot of build threads die open-ended..., really glad this one didn't)

Thanks PugetDude!

Unfortunately, this one will probably go on for at least another year or two! [emoji23]

BTW, I used to live in PA, before I retired from the military. The PA Slammer name comes from a race series I did; The Grand Slam of Ultra Running. I found out I was the first registered PA resident that was able to finish the series. My 15 minutes of fame! LOL

Thanks! I’ll ad some. However, the attached garage is kind of a storage area right now. We’re pretty active, so it’s packed with gear!

I’ll gladly add some interior house pics. I do feel sheepish though. Always love to share, but I would hate to sound like I’m bragging. I grew up with nothing . I’m humbled where I ended up. Unbelievably fortunate.

PA: your posting words and attitude are even better than your new home and garage so happy to join you for the ride. since i was a Realtor for almost 30 years and delt with building and developing mostly the last 15 before retiring in 2007 maybe i'll help some, but more than not it looks like i'll be learning just by following along.

click on my profile and if you'd like ask me to be a FREIND so to speak click on the part that says so and i'll definitely agree. I rarely use that option, but thought that since you are a fairly new member you might need someone to help guide you around GJ for other things once you get your garage built. I used to be very active on the vise thread until it became more about pricing so now I mostly hang in vintage tools and the garage threads unless somebody asks me for help in another area.

I was also a golf pro and while you had your 15 minutes of fame when I was in high school Fred Couples wouldn't gamble with me on his home course without getting 2 shots per 9 holes. yep he got a bit better and life happened for me. i did try the long drive tour and finished 11th in the world one year and was on their tour for a couple years. then my try for the champions tour ended when I didn't get my card in 2005 at Q school and the real estate market crashed up here in 2006 for my builders and developers.

sorry for the long story, but you did ask and i've never been known for a short answer.

take care and again i'm happy I found you and your thread cause it looks like a great place.

cheers (I drink a gallon of homemade ice tea in old frozen glass mugs daily)

my bride who raised our 5 kids got me this on my 60th a few years ago and she's right.

That’s a great story. I always love hearing how guys get their monikers. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve lurked on GJ for awhile. It’s actually VERY DANGEROUS! Some of the garages are out of this world! I’ve got so many ideas!

PA: yep and i've got more stories if you'd like to hear some. my handle was originally my EBay handle where i was buying golf equipment from caddies, shops and pros all over the world cause most of the stuff I couldn't buy near Seattle.

if you have a minute go in your GJ profile and click on AVATAR and download one of your favorite pics like your home or car or whatever and it will show up like the welded bison I use under your handle. also you can change it later if you want to.

take care and i'm very happy I took a few minutes to find your thread today and i'll read it from the beginning some day, but for now i'll just follow along cause I think i'm on (or been on) about 4,000 threads here.

cheers

Well, I just got home from work. Although no progress on the shop... they did replace the LVL with a Glulam like the plans said.
Not sure how they did it so quickly. But I sure am fleas it’s done.
