PA: so your roofers installed your metal roofing with snow on the ground? your new roof looks great and i'm guessing you like it too.

in fact your entire home, garage and property look fantastic.

what are the rooms for in the back of the garage or maybe I missed where you mentioned it?

stay warm!!

Yeah, we have periods of sun and snow here in Colorado. It’s almost ridiculous. When it snows... it SNOWS! But on the clear days, everything melts fast. We had a good snowfall, followed by a couple beautiful days. They shoveled off the roof, which already had ice shield on, let it dry. Then put the panels up. I was curious about that knowing asphalt shingles shouldn’t be put up in cold weather. But I couldn’t find anything about installing a metal roof in colder climates.

The rooms in the back are a bathroom in the corner; with a toilet, sink and shower.

And a utility room against the back wall for a hot water tank, air compressor and a dust collection system.

The area in between the two will have a shop sink / cleaning area.

Great looking house, and garage. Love how unconventional all the rakes and angles are.

Thanks. It’s amazing how many positive comments we get on that. We’ve always loved the look of a Mountain Contemporary design.

Not sure why more people don’t go that way. I think it may be a bit risky of an idea for most.

Yes, and a bit harder and more expensive to frame and roof

Agreed! Plus, the landscaping you've done really looks great! Thanks for sharing all the great photos of your home, garage & yard. I'm looking forward to seeing how your garage comes together.

Have you done a floor plan of where everything goes or where you think everything will fit in your shop. I’m keen to see how guys figure out what goes where and how it best works. Kind of like kitchen design.

Funny you mention that. My wife laughs at me walking around in circles in an empty, unfinished shop. If she could only hear the conversation in my head!

And you’ll always have other stuff you want to add. So you want to have some flexibility, I keep seeing cheap Haas CNC machines

PA: one thing that has helped me organize my spaces over the years is doing cut outs of my space (garage in your case now) and make everything to scale so you can move things around on paper and figure out lighting, electrical and other things too. i'm sure you've already done some of that. my bride used to help draw up house plans for some of my clients and having that little triangle ruler that you can scale down almost anything really helped or a regular ruler will do in a pinch.

good luck!!

Each bay will have three rows of lights. I also added two outlets in between each bay for retractable lights/outlets.

The nose of each bay will have a 110 and a 220 outlet. The 220 will be for either a 30amp plug to charge the RV/Trailer or to plug in a lift... later in life maybe.

They turned out pretty dark from the outside yet plenty of light on the inside.

These pics were taken within a few seconds of each other.

I LOVE THEM!

Thanks guys. Can’t wait to finish things up... but looks like it’ll be awhile.

I really do love the way the doors turned out. All that natural light inside!

Well... got another piece of the puzzle complete, with all but a few details.

Installed a few SILFAB SIL-320NL solar panels.
79 panels total!

Should be enough to run the house, the shop and charge a car or two!

I’m not a hater when it comes to fossil fuels. I have a lifted full size Chevy pickup, several two-stroke bikes, a diesel tractor, etc... I believe in responsible drilling here in the USA as well. However, after 28 years of deployments in the Air Force, I think it’s about time we rid ourselves from dependency of foreign oil!

Don’t mean to get too political on all of you... I just think we can ALL work together to make things better. To my liberal friends, to my conservative friends, to my black friends, to my police officer friends, to mask wearers, to gun toters... let’s put our efforts into something bigger, something better.
