As the title says, we'll be moving about 25 miles and into town.

Right now I have a shop that is approx 40 x 100. Part of that is a pole barn with dirt floors, part of it is an insulated and heated shop, and another part is finished with drywall, heat, 3/4 bathroom where my gym is.

It's a pretty awesome shop that is full to the brim with a car lift, 5' x 10' plasma table, 60 ton press, fork lift, welding table, paint rack, cabinets, and probably more.

So sadly, in respects to the shop, we're moving into town. We're building a new house on a 1/4 acre lot. Luckily there is room for a 4 car garage. We're supposed to be signing the contract next week and they'll start on the foundation next week.

I have some planning to do as far as basic lay out of the equipment and how much stuff I'll have to get rid of.

Right now I know I'll be getting rid of all the plasma table stuff, press, forklift, car trailer. I'm probably going to have to sell the lift, as its doubtful that the new garage will have 12' ceilings, but I think I'll get a baseplate lift that doesn't require as much ceiling height. Right now we have 5 vehicles, so at least one has to go (70 Chevelle that has been sitting for 3 years that needs MAJOR repairs). I'll keep my 68 C-10 SWB pickup and probably my LS powered BMW 540i. Not sure about my daily driver (chevy CCSB and momma's van). I'm also going to have a company truck, but it can sit outside.

In the past I've never really been concerned on how my garage looks, but have been more concerned on getting work done and it being functional. I might take a little time to make it look nice in addition to functional.

I know I'll have them wire in a couple of 220 outlets for my air compressor and welders as well as a lift (even if I don't get it right away). Should be fun designing it all, but it's going to be a tight fit going from what I have now to just a 4 car garage.

It would **** for us to have to move to town. We just spent the past number of years getting to move to the country! Hope the decision is a good one for you.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with to downsize the shop and keep your key functionality.

Good luck and we will be along for the ride!

You can spec out the design to have a taller garage to make room for the lift. May be easier to just sell your current place with the lifts (huge selling point to the right buyer) left there and then getting a lift that's more appropriate for your new garage.
