Moving to Virginia 2013

Hello to all the other folks from the overtaxed Northeast:

We bought a farm in southwestern Virginia in 2003 to get some distance from the World Trade Center bullseye and get away from the oppressive taxes in New Jersey. Found a nice 33 acre farm on the eastern flank of the Blue Ridge that had a 3-bay 30x40ft block garage in addition to a very nice (but TLC-needed) farmhouse. After many $ on roofing and heating we are ready to move down there next summer.

In addition to the block garage, we also have a tractor shed.

And the Parker 973 1/2 was an eBay find, $35 in Jersey City, NJ. Haven't found anything close to that, since. Quick green paint job was mine, otherwise unmolested.

Now, just so long as you enjoy Virginia and not try to turn it into NYC-South you will be OK...because "we don't give a damn how you did it up North". LOL!

Welcome to Garage Journal. I am in Ohio and just love the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have bicycled about 75% of it in multiple stages over the years. I would love to be in your spot so close to the BRP

Hello sysop, I am very new to these forums and I guess I should move out of the "introduce new member" to the Garage Gallery. Is there any way to do that and carry the other replies? I can tell a 9/16 box wrench from a 14mm from four feet away but this keyboard stuff takes a little instruction.

Hello D-Hokie, I have already learned to address everyone as "y'all" and my neighbors have taught me that me ATV is actually called a "fo-weela." And my wife and I have learned to love Patrick County and its environs to the extent that we would never try to contaminate it with Jersey ick.

We are in a great prox to the BRP (12 miles away) but I am not a bicyclist; however my son is a bike tech and is considering starting a shop in that area (Tuggle's Gap, mp 165.) There is a LOT of bicycle traffic on the BRP these days. Hope you can come back when possible and keep the traffic up!

Lived right off of the parkway near Boone for about 6 and a half years... I love the area and there is sooo much to do on your down time in that area! It is so easy to just hit the parkway and find a nice spot to hike or bike at!

Check out the area of Grayson Highlands sometime!
