So it hasn't been a month yet since we finished up our last bus repair. Then this was yesterday. The FIRST day of school...

It clearly says, stop on signal, on the escape door. The driver was just trying to get as close to the signal as they could.

At least it wasn't a $1000 tractor cab door that was just replaced one month prior. Actually I think it was more like three weeks.

Isn't the rear of a school bus full of flashing lights? :shocking: :eyecrazy: That is a pretty good hit, was someone possibly playing on their phone? :lol_hitti:

Something distracted him. Crying shame too, it was the nicest Ranger pickup I've ever seen. Driver was a high school kid, I'm told he's had the truck for about 4 months. Whatever his distraction was has served up a hard lesson.

Here's local video, last few seconds show how badly it pushed the bus bumper.. Someone smacked it good!

If I lived in your neighborhood, I would hangout in your shop just to watch a craftsman like yourself "force metal to bend to your will !"

Definitely a life lesson for the young man (I hope). At least you have job security lol.
Robert that's one cool seat back. I don't think I've ever seen one like it. Great job.

New apprentice starting this Tuesday night, just in time for all the yellow parts we'll be fixing!

Some of our efforts this past week...

CAD used for console ideas...

Test fit for arm rest height and shifter location..

Drilled the hole pattern for the speaker in the sub box. To save from splitting the MDF we used 10-32 riv-nuts pressed in from the back side to give us some machine threads...

IMG_4190.jpg

IMG_4193.jpg

.....and started trimming the second rear seat boltster backing plate

Shop progress for the past week:

Jake is our new apprentice that started this past Tuesday, here getting a bumper prepped for paint in our latest bus repair..

IMG_4199.jpg

Here we positioned the sub box inside the frame so we could locate and drill rivet nuts into the floor framework for securing it down.

IMG_4204.jpg

Mike spraying some SPI epoxy on the Bus rear bumper and our rear seat back enclosure parts.

IMG_4208.jpg

Installing the sub box to check our hole alignment.. Yes, the car is on the side, I'm not really planking..

IMG_4212.jpg

Rear seat back enclosure in SPI...

IMG_4219.jpg

My body hammer drawers in the tool box has been getting out of control, so in order to make more room for dollies and other goodies, Jake cut up some scrap steel we had laying around so we could make a hammer rack. Still have another stand for future hammer collecting

IMG_4226.jpg

Here's the BASF urethane on the Bus bumper. Black parts done, yellow to go..

Robert, from the crash scene video it appears the driver has a cell phone attached to his head. It's very hard to explain how quickly things go wrong to to a teenager. Immaturity and delusions of immortality go together.

Robert, most of the Floridians have posted minimal damage. Cuba helped take Irma down to a much less powerful storm. I left most of my storm shutters up. Turns out Maria may reach hurricane strength tomorrow and is heading our way.

Never know what you see pull into the shop. Got a phone call earlier this week to look at a damaged trailer...

Apparently someone that had borrowed this for an event did not understand the operation of a Bulldog coupler. Near as we can tell, the split coupler was never compressed when the collar was moved forward, so it rested against it. With a bit more force they were able to insert the safety pin, and the first bump started the chain of events.

Looks like the did some plowing in the grassy area of our local county fair...

Since we had the correct size square tubing in stock, we cut a piece to length, welded in place, then Jake abraded with the DA and painted with some SPI epoxy primer.

4 of the 11 photos didn't show. I'm using Firefox.

That damage is a prime example of why I don't loan my trailer to anyone.

Chrome, I see all of them, with IE some are missing...

I've had the same problem before - but it's usually not the browser that causes it. You might try changing the privacy settings on those 4 photos to let anyone view them.
