The manual for this unit is frustrating.

I know how to wire the power to the outdoor unit - no problem.

However, the cable between the indoor and outdoor unit is a puzzle. The manual says to match the colors based on the panel diagrams.

The indoor panel diagram does not include colors that match the provided signal cable. Ditto for the outdoor unit.

If I wire terminal 1 indoor to 1 outdoor, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3 (which generally matches colors between the units - ignoring the colors in the signal cable), then I am sending a hot leg to a terminal that the panel diagram on the indoor unit says is a neutral.

Indoor unit..
S = Signal (yellow)
N = Neutral (blue(black))
Lin = Line in or Live in (red)

Outdoor unit
S (black) = Signal
L1 (red), L2 (blue) = out of phase hot legs to make 240

So I know to connect the signal terminals together and Lin to L1.

The question is, is the indoor unit 120 or 240? That answer determines whether terminal 2 on the indoor unit goes to terminal 2 on the outdoor unit or if I have to provide a neutral at that terminal.

See where terminal 2 on the indoor diagram says it's a neutral?

Is that true or is that a leftover from this diagram being borrowed from a 120v unit?

The Neutral on the indoor unit is probably just rest of the world, 240V L & Neutral, labelling that hasn't been changed for the US units. If it is L2 outdoor goes to N indoor.

Wouldn't hurt to check the indoor unit model number just to be sure though. And if you're still not comfortable with it call tech support tomorrow.

It doesn't seem right to me, but looking at the diagram, it looks like there is only one wire on the fan motor and the N is possibly bonded to the chasis. If that's the case, the indoor unit is 120VAC.

It does look a little odd. But they've also drawn it with one wire going to the display board and it's definitely gonna have more than that.

I saw that and thought maybe the diagram is representative of a harness with multiple conuctors, but then there are other items that are clearly shown with two lines on the same component. :headscrat

Hi - I just attempted to send a message using your support over email form, but I am not sure it was sent. I need to technical assistance with a Mr. Cool Advantage 24,000 - specifically wiring the power and control cable between the indoor and outdoor units.
Me

Okay how can I help
Kenneth

The wiring diagram for the indoor unit shows terminal 2 being a neutral.
The outdoor unit is 240V
Is the wiring diagram mislabeled and this is supposed to be the other hot leg or do I really need a neutral there?
Me

L1 and L2 and a ground are the main power on the outdoor unit.....then for the indoor communication cable what ever wire you put on the terminals outside make sure to match and put the same color wire on the same terminal inside
Don't worry about the colors or what the terminal is labeled on the indoor unit just color code and match what you do inside and do the same thing outside
Kenneth

Right - on the outdoor unit L1 (red) and L2 (blue) are the hot legs. Terminal 2 on the indoor unit is also blue, but it is labelled on the wiring diagram as "N". You are confirming that I connect L2/terminal 2 outdoor to terminal 2 indoor?
Me

No your line power does not connect with your communication cable
L1 and L2 are for MAIN power only. Then the left over terminals would use the communication cable
Kenneth

The wiring diagram for the outdoor unit shows that L1 and terminal 1 are the same node (jumpered) and that L2 and terminal 2 are also the same node.
Me

That's true it will carry the power indoor the air handler but don't wire the communication cable on those terminals.
Kenneth

Sure - I was just noting that that other wire is going to be the other hot leg.
So terminal 1 to terminal 1
2 to 2
and 3 to 3?
Me

Correct
Kenneth
10-4 - thank you very much!
Me

You are very welcome!
Kenneth

Just FYI - that wiring diagram on the indoor unit shows that as a neutral so you may get that question from others.
