I bought the Mr. Cool 18000 btu heat pump for my 24x30 garage last summer. Price fron HD was around $900 and I purchased the wall mounting brackets and solid lineset cover also. Installed all the components, as this was new construction and had my AC guy come pump the system down, check for leaks and generally make sure I didn't screw something up. He found a small leak on one of the couplings on the indoor unit. Word of advice, route the lines attached to the indoor unit straight out through the wall rather than folding them at a right behind the indoor unit before penetrating the wall. It's not fun holding the 75 lb unit for the tech on while on an 8' ladder. Other than that boo boo, it was very straight forward and easy for a non AC tech kinda guy. BTW, my AC guy charged me $250 and signed off on the warranty. I think it was cheap insurance. Good luck.

Would be very interesting if HD had a flat rate install price that they backed with a warranty.

My price shows around $800. You still have to do evacuation and refrigerant charge.

...waranty is 1 compressor part and 2 years parts. Dang, that's short! System looks identical to the DIY, minus the lineset.

DIY SEER = 16
Advantage SEER = 19

That sounds backwards. Compressor is normally longer warranty than parts. And yes it is short but should be long enough to most defects to show up before it expires. At the price point I wouldn't be scared to roll the dice on one.

Regardless of brand I like to buy from Home Depot they have a return window of 90 days.

I got no warranty because self install but if it was damaged in shipping I haul it back to the customer service counter. Or if it goes kaboom in the first 3 months. (So far it hasn’t). Been over a year now and I don’t think about warranty anymore.

By the way 19 SEER is only so so. The pioneer and ductlessaire brand already have 21 SEER for the 18k model. Which this is a previous model of those.
They are the same copies of minis from China with each companies sticker on it

do you find a big difference in cooling power or power usage from 17 seer to 20.5 seer?
$242 difference in a mrcool advantage vs pioneer - x2 units for me

The bigger the BTU unit the bigger difference the SEER rating makes.

Here in California every watt counts so I always opt for the higher SEER.
The higher SEER model is also the later and better model and may have better heating as well. Considering the 21 SEER is same as a mitsubishi which cost about 2x it is pretty good

I don't see how this would be possible. Too many variations with the install.

If I had an actual "HVAC buddy" (licensed installer), I'd probably be looking for a non-Mr. Cool system and ask him for a receipt for the install. Or as suggested, the non-DIY system.

I messed with some online seer calculator savings and with our 8.5 cent electric the payback period was into the teen years for payback. More seer means more technology and ways for things to go wrong.

Installing a mini is not rocket science but most failures of minis is due to improper installation. Mini's run at up to 700 psi pressure, things must be done properly.
