I have a 24K DIY unit on the way from Costco and it only comes with a 25 foot lineset. I would rather use a 16 foot lineset but the DIY sets are fairly expensive. I have a vacuum pump and I am wondering if I get a standard 16 foot 3/8 5/8 line set and pump it down if that would work.

Thanks

You can buy the non-DIY for a lot less $$$ and they come with various lengths of line that you can further cut/flare to your own liking or even buy a roll of copper tubing from Home Depot. They are still pre-charged with refrigerant, so all you need is gauges and a vacuum pump.

With the DIY, I don't think you can change the lineset length, as even if you cut/flare, they won't mate up with the DIY fittings on the condenser. Not sure if they are removable or soldered on.

Thanks, but I have already bought the DIY unit for a good price and what is represented as a higher SEER rating than cheaper non-DIY units.

I would say no. I would think the fittings are different. Probably have to get a DIY one. Call the manufacturers customer service

The DIY units have adapters on them to make them DIY. That's how all the ones I have seen work -- they are standard units w/ the adapters. The old original ones had the lineset attached to the head unit and only the fitting on the compressor. Now they have the head w/ them as well. They sell various lengths of lineset

IMO -- find out what a 16' lineset costs .... They sell a shorter line today. Maybe sell the longer -- may not be very much demand.

Taking a DIY and doing conventional is possible ..... they are the same unit. Remove adapters and cut the lineset. The normal way is to loop the lineset

I just installed a mitsubishi mini split. Bought a 16’ line set and cut/flared to the shorter length I needed. Mr cool should be able to validate the fitting sizes. Mine were 1/4” and 1/2”. I don’t like coiling up 10’ of line……a bit ghetto in my opinion.
