I installed a 36k multi with 3 12k air handlers. My original intentions were to put them all upstairs/ground floor, where AC would be most beneficial.
Mid install, I decided one handler would be in a part of the house mostly unused until we complete some remodel, maybe in a couple years.
I then decided to put that handler downstairs, for heat in the winter to get away from electric baseboard heat. In the future I could still add 1 more handler upstairs when it might be used more.

That has worked OK, but I now realize the 12k isn't the best choice for heating the large basement area, and I think a 24k would be better suited.
So, I'm thinking I can replace my downstairs unit with a 24k and move the 12k into the original upstairs location.

My outdoor unit is a 4 zone 36k that still has an unused zone. The 2 existing upstairs units really only get used for AC, and the basement only gets used for heat so I think the capacity will be fine.

To my question.... does anyone know if I can disconnect the linesets without loosing too much refrigerant? Do they reseal? I would close the valves at the outdoor unit before disconnect so at least the rest of the system remains isolated.
I thought I read somewhere that they can, but I was wondering if anyone has done it.

Thanks!!
