I enjoy reading about the Men and the History of their tool companies, unfortunately when the companies post their profiles, they tend to forget information about their founders. Now I was very lucky in that after doing some simple math, I could figure out his birth year and the year he died. I could not find a whole lot of information about his history, while he lived on this planet.
He was born in 1903, in Germany in the district of Remscheid (his first parents' home) and he died in 1986. at the age of 83. I am apologizing up front because I could not find out any more information about his family, or even where he is buried.
Now I know that a lot of our readers know about Elora tools, because I must have found about 20 pages on the GJ, but nothing much about their history, so to speak. I never come across many German tools in my tool hunting adventures, but I found a few this week at a garage sale and I though some of you might enjoy learning a little bit about some quality made tools. Elora was founded in 1924 by Mr. Rauch at Birker Weg 4 in Luttringhausen; he started by manufacturing chain pipe wrenches and Stillson pipe wrenches in his parents' cellar. (My guess is he had some blacksmithing skills), either that or he had a very large forge with a large hammer?
As his business was starting to grow, he bought the land next to his parents' house and he built a factory in 1928.
