getting ready to install my mr heater finally.....have the gas line run, the power run.. just need to exhaust it all... we'll from the start i had been planing a horizontal vent bought the thimble, 4' of 4" bvent and the chimney cap..but after reading and ddoing some more thinking on the matter.. i came to the realization that the outside soffit is 5" lower then the inside ceiling height, and the the mr heater instructions say i have to have 4 feet between the exhaust and hte soffit..i'll be struggling for inches... so is a vertical exhaust my only option? id have to shovel the snow off to even find the shingles :-(

I am in the same boat. All I have left is the exhaust. I will be shoveling the snow this weekend assuming it isn't really cold.

I will probably start with a small piece of bvent into an elbow. And I am going to use three elbows because I can't go straight up through the roof or I will be right in front of a bedroom window.

I wanted to go horizontally as well but the spot is between a door and a window and I didn't want to have the exhaust stick out too far. It would also face the north wind so it will just be better to go through the roof.

so going vertically what would brace the weight of the pipe? the thimble going thru the chimney doesnt really touch the pipe so im thinking it wouldnt really have to be braced with 2*4's where it pops thru the drywall? anyhone got pics of an install?

I used a 45* elbow out of the furnace and when I layed out where my pipe needed to go through my ceiling I built a box with 2x4's so that the thimble would have something to be fastened to both top and bottom. I slid my double wall pipe up through the thimble and then connected 1 more 3' length of double wall that went straight out through my roof. When you cut through the roof leave the hole big enough so that the vent pipe cannot come into contact with anything combustible, I believe they say 1" all around and your pipe should be centered in the hole. After you put your pipe through the roof and connect the 2 pipes you will then slide the vent flashing over the pipe and fasten in down to your roof with roofing nails. Slide the collar over the pipe next, this keeps the weather out and use high temp silicone around it and around the thimble and you should be good to go. When you go through your roof have some black jack roofing tar handy to seal you shingles back down to seal it up good. I have no other bracing and nothing leaks or rattles around. The silicone keeps everything tight for me. I did mine last year and have checked a number of times including when I started using it this heating season. I have attached a pic of how mine goes through my ceiling.

This is what you would support the pipe weight with. May need to add some box framing around your lower truss cord or ceiling joists to tie this into.http://www.ventingpipe.com/simpson-dura-vent-4gvs-aluminum-gas-vent-roof-support-with-4-inch-inne
