Hello, my first post. I'm installing a Mr Heater 50,000 btu NG heater in my shop. Its spot will be 25 ft from a 80,000 btu high efficiency furnace. There is a 1inch line coming in the building which reduces to 3/4 to (eventually 1/2" ) into the furnace . There is a tee at the top. Could I tap into that 3/4" tee and run a 3/4" line to the shop heater reducing to 1/2" into the heater? My fear was would the shop heater starve the gas flow to the furnace. Appreciate any guidance.

Thanks nwav8tor. I was hoping for more than one reply, but I got lucky. A customer came in today with a heating and cooling van so I hit him up for some free advice. He said the 3/4" line has more than enough capacity for both units, so that's the way I'm going to go. Went to price out the black pipe at Home depot and a little sign says " as of Dec 13 we no longer cut and thread pipe for our customers" Great timing.

Cochise,

Here's what I did - I bought a Rigid 00R hand threader and the right size Rigid 00R die for 3/4" NPT, plus a no-name pipe cutter (Tekton). That way I could measure every piece to exact length and be confident in the threads. I already had a vice with pipe jaws. I went slow, used lots of cutting fluid and it turned out great. I'd do the same thing again in a heartbeat if I had to do the same project.

Glad it worked out for you. I just used readily available standard length pipes and fittings with a flexible line at the end of the run to the heater. No cutting and threading involved!

Wow, can't believe a Home Depot store would stop offering this service!? I just installed 2 Reznors in my Garage, one on each floor. I purchased all of my black iron at the local home depot, and had them cut everything to length. The old timer cutting and threading my stuff even suggested I put back some of the pre-cut ******* in my cart, as it was cheaper to buy a 10' and have him cut and thread it to all the different lengths I needed. I was there probably an hour, and he cut and thread at least 15 ends for me, all of them flawlessly. Do you have a Lowes nearby? They'll also do it.

What I did was this... Per my town inspectors instructions, I pushed 50' of 1" CSST w/ Flashshield from the house, through a pre-installed 2" conduit. That was vented to the outdoors on one end with a T, and then sealed on both ends in the house/garage. Once in the garage, I transitioned into 1" black iron, and eventually split that into (2) 1/2" lines, one going to each heater. The first floor heater is 45,000 BTU, the second floor a 30,000. No problems at all with having enough gas, and I think it would still be fine with 3/4". The 1" was overkill, in case I ever want to run a generator or something else out there.
