I am installing an 80k btu Mr Heater in my pole barn. I decided to vent horizontally to avoid the "smoke stack" look through the roof. I purchased the horizontal vent kit from Mr Heater for this unit. The pipe is stainless steel with gaskets formed at each end, but I do not believe it is double wall.

I have a piece of b vent to compare to...

The pipe is also considerably smaller than the wall thimble, resulting in about 1/4 - 1/2 gap surrounding the pipe.

I put high temp caulk to fill the gap, then covered the joints with a storm collar for cosmetics.

I have read several threads all across the web regarding this, but it seems the common theme is its double wall b-vent. I'm not sure what I am missing...but I am not pleased with this kit. For $300, it should come ready to use. My question is will this be safe with single wall, stainless running through a wall thimble that provides approx. 1" clearance?

It looks poorly designed (or manufactured) relative to the fit of the tubes. But in my opinion if there are silicone gaskets inside the exhaust pipe then the air temp isn't more than 400-500F. I'd think 1" clearance good but you could always point a non-contact thermometer at the outer surface to see what's actually happening, or fling some water driplets on the OD of the tube and see how fast they vaporize.

That is the correct vent for your heater. Heater classification changed a few years ago so you need to vent as class III. If you followed the vent and heater installation instructions as well as comparing it to your local codes your good. The kits don't always have everything you need but they do send you everything required to meet the code. You have a minimum and maximum horizontal lenght to stay within code. Don't believe everything you read on the web. Plenty of incorrect DIY installations out there.
