Ooooooooooold thread, I know, I know...

For anybody that is having vibration problems with the Big Maxx heater, check out the main fan motor. Mine has been really noisy since I installed it. I have tried tightening everything, replaced the rubber fan guard washers with felt, even swapped the original blade for a heavier one I found on McMaster-Carr. I happened across a motor that looked to be similar to the fan motor and decided to try swapping it out. Unfortunately the rotation was wrong but it was dead silent without any vibration for the few minutes it was running.

The closest replacement I can find online is from Dayton and a new one will be here Saturday :) Hopefully it is quieter than the POS OEM motor.

I am using a 100,000 BTU Modine unit heater hung with a quick sling (brand) hanger bolted to the bottom of a truss bottom chord. No vibration and barely any noise.

The Dayton motor showed up yesterday. Perfect fit, much higher quality that the OEM motor, less expensive and most importantly...dead silent when running!

I just installed a 50k Mr. Heater. No vibration from the fan. Seems pretty quiet to me.

Re: Mr Heater (Big Maxx 50) vibration problems - Update

Good to hear, do you have the new motor part number?

I thought I posted a link...I forgot how strict they are around here...

It is Grainger PN 3m547, but the price was the same and quicker shipping through Amazon.

Mine was definitely a dud since new but my warranty had lapsed by the time I installed the heater a few years ago.

Thanks, just thought it would be good to have the info either for myself or someone else that might be searching later on with this type of problem.
