Hey Everyone,

I need to purchase two Natural Gas heaters for use in greenhouses.

For this use the heating season is pretty short (2-3 months in an average season) but the environment is pretty harsh (high humidity, dusty, etc).

I know the Hot Dawg has a good reputation so I'm mostly curious about the Big Maxx, the price difference is pretty substantial (to the point where I could buy a spare Big Maxx to keep on the shelf and still spend less than the two Hot Dawg units).

Is there a good reason the Big Maxx is so much cheaper? Reliability issues? Quality of materials? Very interested in hearing from anyone using a Big Maxx, ideally if you've been using it for a few heating seasons.

-Thanks

In some jurisdictions only heaters certified for greenhouse use can be installed.

I've had 2 Mr. Heater Big Maxx heaters (45k and a 80k) for 8 years now. Had a minor issue with the igniter in the 45k but blew out the dust and it's worked fine since. I think the Modine is a fine heater and quite likely better than my Mr. Heaters. But, I'm happy with what I have and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
