Hey All -

I just ran my gas and electric to the shop I'm building, but having some thoughts on how to mount it.

My shop has a very steep gambrel roof and where I want the heater I wont really have access to the truss chords becauce of the garage door.
I'm looking at wall mounting my heater instead. Clearance-wise, I could literally just build a wood shelf and set it on there, but I dont like the look of that.

Looking for some other ideas or things some of you have done.

See below for a qucik sketchup drawing of 3 options I'm thinking along with a pic of where it will go in the shop.

Thanks!

Assuming gas...

If you need to get inside it, and you will, your middle one will require you to take it down first. When it doesn't start, and it eventually won't, the service codes are inside and you have to take the side panel off to see what is not working.

I have to clean inside mine with a pipe cleaner ~twice a year. 5 minute job with access to the side panel.

The right one seems to be the easiest with the best support.

Great point - I didn't think about access. I have had the same Big Maxx 80k heater in my garage for 10 years now, luckily have never had to open it up, but it's something to think about.

Considering that and still not wanting to take up a bunch of space, i'm thinking about a single bracket version of #1, which will also allow me to angle the unit as well. Something like this:

Well - Here it is. Worked great. I mounted the single arm low on a wall stud - it held my 240lbs, so should be just peachy for the 60lb heater.

Question did u look at minimum distance to wall?
Yes, I see that it wants 18" clearance at the back - Mine is 9" from the closest point and around 26" at the further point on the back - I was Mimicking what was installed in my attached garage. The inspector didn't seem to have any issues with it when he was there today. I didnt even think to bring it up to him.
