In the manual it says about a condensate drain on the one page and on the next it doesn't show one
What is the consensus on this??

Does the heater install manual say you have to use a cleanout/condensation T?

I don't believe there's a use for a cleanout tee on a modern gas fired appliance

Obviously the vent manual says to use a T for an upward slope horizontal but, but........I just checked the garage at my municipal garage and it has an upward sloped vent, with no T on the vent

A T looks to be used when going vertical. I'm just not understanding why they are showing 2 different ways for horizontal use

first picture indicates no induced draft blower, second does

also, the first one is for commercial installations, second for residential

Awesome. Thanks for clearing that up. Glad I don't have to add that in there.

Is it a condensing furnace ?? Some installations require metal -- maybe in commercial settings.

A non condensing furnace will have high heat exhaust and require metal -- it's not going to have water vapor.

The trap is to catch the water vapor coming off of a condensing furnace.

Everything I've read is the the vent is supposed to run downward away from heater at 1/4" per ft.

CAT III venting components have to meet a couple criteria. Exhaust gas temps must be 140* above dew point temp to prevent condensation, as CAT III appliances are non-condensing...theoretically anyway, but the vent components must be corrosion "resistant". The non-condensing part applies only to the point where the flue gases leave the appliance. I think that technically, your system does not require a drain on the vent, but keep in mind that every system has a personality. I would suggest that you keep an eye on the system to be certain that you are not getting condensate back into the appliance. You can see signs of the boiled off or evaporated moisture. The pH on the flue gas condensate is about 3.2 so it is pretty hot.

I don't pretend to be an expert, I just sell the gas, but I know that if you don't have enough upward slope on a vent pipe (that is not blown) acidic condensate will quickly form on long fairly horizontal runs and eat the metal out in the bottom of the pipe, seen it a few times in houses where they did not want the vent on front roof and had long runs to roof vents.

I installed the stainless horizontal vent kit for my Big Maxx 50k at a slight upward slope from the heater as shown in the instructions. Maybe we are not describing what we are doing well enough? Upward slope from the heater might be viewed by some as a downward slope to the heater. Mine is residential and I do not use a condensate drain.
