It's finally time to flip the switch on Mr. heater. How do you guys "winterize" your heaters? I want to keep out dust and ****, standard issue Big Maxx, I'm not opposed to wrapping it up in a ********* bag for longevity sake but I think that would be ugly.

Go up on the roof and make sure the chimney cap is in place so I don't have to tear apart a flue pipe again and remove a duck (yes quack quack) that had fallen inside and unfortunately died :(

We came home from our summer holiday last year to a living room full of flies, found them exiting the woodburner air vent on the door. Took the throat plate out and found a dead pigeon in the flue so it's not that uncommon, our neighbours here a couple of years ago kept hearing noises in their living room and eventually opened up their wood burner to find a live, small, very sooty and somewhat confused owl sat inside.

So yeah, plugging the flue isn't a bad idea even if its just with some kind of screen material.

Twice a year, I go over all the little things like preventive vehicle maintainence and look over the tools, this includes grabbin the air hose and blowing everything out as well vacuum. Just to get little **** like build up knocked on its *** before it gets a chance to bite ya.
