Mr. Heater Location Question

My new shop is 28x24 in the garage area with 10' sidewalls and scissor trusses that go to 15' 9" at the peak. The walls and ceiling will have fiberglass insulation. I am considering a propane Mr. Heater 50,000 BTU Big Max. My question is if I use vinyl soffit for ceiling material is the Mr. Heater going to generate too much heat on the vinyl? Sould I use OSB or some other material over the heater area?

Why use vinyl soffit for the ceiling? If only attached to the ceiling trusses it may warp regardless of what heater you use. Ceiling fan/s should be used regardless to keep the heat down were it's most usefull.

Heater should be sized for your area regardless of what material you decide to cover the ceiling in. Heater has fins to direct heat at the level you want. Heat will be at ceiling height anywhere within the garage.

Thanks for the reply. My question relates to the area in proximity to the heater itself. I know that normally Mr. Heaters can be mounted pretty close to the ceiling, but I don't want problems withe the vinyl. I have read where a number of folks on here used vinyl with no apparent problems. Ceiling fans are definately part of the plan. Any other comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

The heater case stays relatively cool. Consider lowering a few inches for piece of mind. Heater should also blow in the area of the coldest air entry (i.e. garage doors). Consider your vent and gas pipe location to also help determine the best mounting location. I don't think you will have any problem with whatever ceiling you choose. You can check out the materials properties as well. Sofit material usually can handle some heat regardless.

That is what I was wondering. Just did not word it well. The amount of heat from the case or immediate area around it. I knew you could adjust the direction of the blower. Any info is helpful.

Incorrect.
Any heat source is most effective when heating the area of cool air intake. Same reason your heat registers are located under your windows in a house.

Doing so would make it quite uncomfortable to work when the heater is on and blowing hot air directly at you.
