mr heater regulator

hi .. been lurking for awhile now, but have found tons of info here. I just purchased and installed( hung and vented) my propane 45,000 mr heater, it's all wired, and thermostat done, but i'm not sure what, if any regulator is needed. I will be running a 100 pound cylinder with 1/2" copper line about 20 feet. I've searched this forum, mr heater's web page, the instruction manual, and the web, but i can't find the answer.Any help would be great. Thanks. ...

You definitely need a regulator between the tank and the heater. Since the heater draws 45kbtu of propane the best commonly available size would be a 60kbtu regulator.
You should be able to find one with the Prstolite fitting for the tank already installed in most grill suply or hardware stores for about 15 bucks.

This my first house, so I'm not sure how long it will last. It's just a small shop 18 x 22, and well insulated. Plus i will only be using it maybe 1 week per month or so, total. So i guess I'll have to try it and see. Perhaps someone else could answer this question for you?

I am new to this forum and came across your question , I am going to install the same heater in my gararge with same fuel source and tank, wanted to ask you about regulator and how that worked out ,did the 60kbtu size work? and did you use a universal hookup off the heater?thanks

I have a 45,000 btu Mr Heater and a 100# propane tank. I used this for my regulator. This will screw directly onto your propane tank.

Home Depot sells a "gas valve" that screws on to a 1/2 black pipe. The brass fitting on the rubber hose of this regulator will screw onto the other side of the "gas valve"

Just make sure the regulator you buy is rated for 45,000 btu or higher. I think most regulator are rated for 60,000 btu or higher.

I run this same heater in my 24x32 garage with 10ft ceilings and is well insulated as well and I use 2-40lb tanks. That way I can handle the tank myself without it being too heavy. I run mine 24/7 at 50 degrees and warmer if I am working on my car and a bottle will last from 2-3 weeks depending on how cold it gets and right now it has been near zero and with going in and out with our cars at least twice a day, I don't feel that is too bad. I am happy with its performance. You will definitely need the regulator.
