mr heater thermostat going over set temp

hey there, i recently installed a 50,000 btu mr heater gas vented furnance in my garage. the thing runs like a champ, turns on when commanded and shuts off when commaded. the issue i have is that when i set the temp on the mr heater branded thermostat it will consistently run til about 10 degrees over. it will shut off and not kick on again until the temperature reaches the desired temp than go about 10 over.
If anyone has any input or similar experiences i would love to hear about it.

first thing I would do is try another thermostat . that's about all it can be .( unless your heater is way oversized for the space ) but you said it shuts off "when commanded" do you mean setting the stat back?

Do you have a link to the thermostat you are using? It sounds like the hysteresis needs to be adjusted.

Also, where are you measuring this temp overshoot? Location of the thermostat can make a difference.

Also are you seeing this overshoot in a cold room being brought up to temp, or one that has been at temp for some time? Is this a new installation or something that has been operating well for some time and this a new issue?

there is an "off" selection on the analog thermostat, when i select it the heater does its cooldown cycle than shuts off..its a brand new install, probably about a week old, the entire time its been doing the 10 degree overshoot.

im using the mr heater thermostat. the thermostat is installed on the inside wall of garage against the house so the temp shouldnt fluctuate too much

It's a cheapo thermostat. I wouldn't expect much out of it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'll report back if new thermostat doesn't work
