Was wondering if you guys are using a mr heater thermostat , or can you just go buy andy type thermostat at the home depot and wire it in?See some reviews that are the greatest for the thermostat, but the heater it self seems to get awesome reviews.

I picked up a programable thermostat off ebay for $10 buck.
The one northern tool sells was $30,and only went down to 50
There is a issue with some electronic model according to the owners manual

Found the Heater very easy to install, quite happy with it so far (only been up for a few days)

control board emits radio noise as the sparking process is
underway. The level of energy may be sufficient to disturb a logic
circuit in a microprocessor controlled thermostat. It is
recommended that an isolation relay be used when connecting
the unit heaters to a microprocessor controlled thermostat. Install
the thermostat according to instructions provided. Select circuit
protection and wire size according to the unit rating plate. Install a
separate disconnect switch (protected by either fuse or circuit
breaker) near the unit so that power can be turned off for
servicing. Connect wiring through knockout on the junction box
located on the side of the unit heater. Refer to heater wiring
diagram for connection information. Use 18 gauge wire or larger
for thermostat connections.

I bought a thermostat from a local HVAC supply house. It goes down to 45 degrees which is 5 degrees lower than most of them. I think it was a ISC1600 or something like that. Lowes and Home Depot have a good supply on them.

How and what are all of you using to wire in your heater for the plug in, I know it has 18 gauge wire inside to hook too. What kind of wire are you buying and are you just wiring in a plug on the other end?

14 ga. will be plenty, I used some BX cable I had in my packrat pile, whatever you use needs to be in some type of conduit ( by code). I myself prefer to hardwire, but a plug will work

Ive seen a lot of people on here with just wire going to the plug from the heater as a normal plug in wire llike you would get attached to a lamp or such.

Hi. I'm using a luxor programmable thermostat on my mr heater and it works fine. The R Y G etc letters on the mr heater board match up exactly with the thermostat's terminals. I just used 18ga extension cord wire for the thermostat wiring.
