Looking at a 175,000 torpedo unit. I have 2911 s/f. It is good for 4,000. They have a 165,000 that is good for 3,000. I have 16' walls so figure better chance with the bigger one. Can a gas grille tank be used? Will it last more than a few minutes? Just wanting to heat shop enough to lay epoxy. Temp is around 50. Use it some while I'm getting my radiant floor ready also

A 20 lb tank won't last and the heater will draw fuel faster than it can vaporize with such a small tank. I would look into at least a 100 lb cylinder. and that may be too small .

The 20lb tank should run it for at least an hour or two.

Cosider the moisture content that will develope on your floor project...if thats an issue.

You don't really need that big of a heater . But the smaller of the 2 will be big enough.

I disagree that a 20 # will work at all . if you really need to find out talk to the L.P gas company they can tell you what size tank to us.


Consider this . A gallon of L.P gas equals 90,000 BTU's of heat. You are talking about a 20 cylinder, There are but a few gallons of L.P in there.


If it were me I would buy a heater around 125,000 or 150,000 btu's nothing bigger. That will be plenty big enough.

Bringing the air temp up will be no problem , but it may take a couple of days to get the slab temp up.

Your correct! Use a IR to check the slab temp before painting, during painting, and cure period!

Lower temps will slow the cure process, or if to low, poor results!

The thing about lp cylinders is the vaporization rate of the fuel. You will seize up a 20# cylinder in a matter of minutes. Actually what happens is you freeze up the regulator. FYI ther are about 21000 btu/lb of lp. You will need a honkin' regulator and a 250 to feed that thing.
