MrCool DIY extra line

In the final steps of preparing for Mini Split install in my 900 sqft fully insulated garage. my buddy is coming out to do power drop to the location the condenser will be placed on a pad. I’m leaning toward a MrCool 24k unit, know it’s a bit overkill for the space but it gets hot here in Phoenix. Looking at other threads there are countless examples of the extra line just being coiled up and placed behind the condenser. Then other threads saying it has to be coiled flat or the oil will pool and eventually kill the unit.

for those with pad mount condensers what are you doing and have you experienced these supposed issues?

Follow what the manufacturer says. I had a friedrich that they said vertical was fine and it worked well for the 7ish years that I lived there. I think Mr cool says horizontal

I'd try to locate the components to burn up as much length as possible

Page 32 of their manual says nothing about orientation just shows coiled line set in image.

The line sets can be run essentially however you need, as long as the condensate drain line is on a downward slope or has a condensate pump. If you mean storage of excess line set, we recommend that excess line set remain coiled and stored horizontally near the condenser.

seems very inconvenient, from a space standpoint and how do you protect it from getting stepped on?

You can leave it coiled up. That's how my mr cool is.

Lots of mini aplit condensers are wall mounted, so it can be coiled underneath. If you are ground mounted, you are kind of SOL

I coiled mine (from 24k Mr.Cool) under the condenser. Don't have a pic but I zip tied it in a coil and up underneath so it's not too obvious. If you don't have room doing it behind the condenser gets done a lot, I wouldn't worry about doing it that way if needed. I don't think 24k is overkill, these things spool up as required so it won't hurt to have plenty of capacity. Make sure and put a surge protector at the outside disconnect, the control boards are delicate in all the different brands of mini splits. And use Nylog on the fittings.

If that solves for the excess length, I think it's worth it

Just ordered the unit, last day of sale at Costco. $1999.99 so once it arrives I can measure things out. Looks like I will be able to get pad, line covers, and the 16’ line set for less than it Was going to cost at Lowe’s and Home Depot for just the unit.

For those who have a MrCool any idea on how long the lines are that come off the inside unit? Based on my rough estimates looks like 16feet line set might work but the measurement I am not sure of is how much sticks out of the wall.

Anyone? Called Mr Cool and after 45 min on hold asked for call back and never got it

based on videos it looks like about 16 inches sticking out of most walls.
