they did the pad last summer. All bank run gravel 10" lifts...then it snowed and froze and thawed and froze, they built the barn,,,now as its getting warm its wet inside and puddles of water and mud...now its going to freeze again.
The guy that did the gravel pad said there is probably frost in the ground and to wait till it all thaws for good and drys up,,,then we can grade it off smooth and compact a few inches of crusher run and it will be nice until if and when I decide to concrete...
Does this sound right ?

the lay of the land will have more to do with water "sitting" than how much gravel is there.

10" of gravel and there are puddles and mud inside?? Something was not done correctly.

Now would be the time to figure out where the issues are and to mitigate them.

What your guy told you mostly makes sense. I would ride it out if I were you. Best thing to do at this point. It will dry. You don't want to add fill on top of wet soil, it will always stay wet underneath and will make a mess in the long run. Def. want to make sure the frost is gone. It may be soft for a couple inches on top, but under that is where the frost is.

If the barn is done, how is it getting wet inside? Is the exterior grading finished to direct water away from the building? Are there gutters on the building?

"All bank run gravel in 10" lifts"
How many lifts total?
Up until now have you been driving in and out to continuously pack the bank run?
If there isn't good air flow, you may need to wait a month longer than the Frost going out of the ground outside as it may stay frozen in there due to no Sun warming the earth(ground) inside.

Sounds like there is a clay layer under the gravel lifts.... Do you think that is so ??? If so, put a curtain drain around the shop, and connect drain lines that are placed in the lifts, that connect to the curtain drain... drain the water out to a dry well that is dug deeper than the clay layer... You do not want a freeze/thaw cycle happening under the shop floor ....

You basicly made a swimming pool and filled it with gravel. You need to drain that gravel area to daylight. Grading around the building may help alot and should be done anyway.

Yes what he said.

there shouldn't be that much water inside your barn unless the bank run was put in before you had a roof and it rain and then froze and the whenever had a chance to drain or evaporate.

How did the water get in there?

Well as I stated it sat for months with no barn, rain, snow froze thawed etc...then the barn went up...I think they brought up dirt after they drilled thru the bank run..

Then the ground thawed a day or so,,then refroze etc..I don't think water is coming in now..but probably still frost in the ground ??
Ill be paitent

Yup that's exactly what happened and what I explained in original post...the pad was there for months, it rained and snowed and froze etc...now we have one warm day in the 60's and then a week of below freezing...im sure once its all thawed and dry it will be fine
Im a bit OCD

No clay, and no drain lines in the lifts,,,there is 47" of bank run in the back...I think the mud is from the holes being drilled into soil and pulling that dirt up,,,rain snow freeze thaw freeze again all before the barn was up...so I think once it drys out and im putting up gutters and the grade is steep away it should be fine...
There is very good drainage here...

Good then you will be fine. I missed that piece. It will dry out but it would help to remove standing water. Tooth it up to increase surface area and move it around and "stir" it every day and it will speed things up.

If you have any big 3 or 4 foot fans it definitely would help move it al9ng more quickly. Otherwise just let mother nature take care of it.
