WW: do you have any of the during pictures like cement pouring and steel framing without any of the siding on it? i would love to have a steel framed shop garage some day.

did you do the work yourself or pay a contractor? any idea of the costs of materials and or the bid to do the entire job?

cutting in outlets onto the steel frame can't be easy or did those go into precut holes? it does look like you are doing the electrical so best of luck getting all that done.

nice looking and what size is it?

thanks for sharing.

I did most of it myself from ground up. Had a concrete man ramrod the slab. Didnt want to get the anchor bolts wrong. The slab is 42'x50', with a 8'x12' slab attached for a head, didnt want to waste space on the inside. 30'x30' is closed in . with a 12' shed attached. Slab cost roughly $13,500 with me doing dirt work and setting forms. Building cost roughly $19,000,

Correction 30'x50' is closed in. Yes im doing the wiring, yes it was a pain in the *** to cut in the wall plugs, but I want a clean look. I tucked the romex under the sidewall framing:willy_nil

WW: thanks for sharing and probably good idea to have a pro do the cement and bolt work so your metal would fit and you have a square building.

I'm not sure if you are going to have a compressor, but if you are you might consider putting it outside and running lines inside if you haven't already.

i'll sit back and watch because i'm always interested to see how talented guys build stuff. ask questions if you need help or just post a ton of pictures and let us know what you are doing so we can see your progress.

good luck

FYI. a few abbreviations we tend to use a lot are PIA which is what you just described about cutting those outlets into steel framing. POS (ask if you don't know), IMHO (in my humble opinion) are a few of the ones you see a lot and if you use we know what you mean.

Drivesitfar, I have gotten a ton of good info from this site. I actually posted pics of the progression of the building. Unfortunately I cant figure out how to keep my posts grouped together, so the are scattered out on here. I have never erected a building like this, so I make mistakes. But its been very rewarding.:dunno:

WW: when i set up a thread with multiple posts i usually do so when it's quite late at night or early AM. then i reserve the first 5 or 10 or so posts and just type in reserved. you have to wait 30 seconds between each post. also if you have time put 1 of 10 or whatever the post count is so another member doesn't post his remarks in between. then you can go back in and edit each post with pictures and words as you have time later.

take a look at the vise repair 101 thread i started (link in my signature) and i'm still editing the first few posts.

i think i read on another thread that you have a ton of Shopsmith stuff and you like Powermatic. my dad has been wanting me to take home his old Shopsmith that is like new so he can get his car in his garage. unfortunately i don't have room, but i may soon in my shop so i can start using it to turn a few handles. it doesn't have the bandsaw attachment and wondered if that is worth owning because i see a lot of them on Craigslist?

good luck and ask questions if you have any about your build or GJ and I (we) will try to help you.
