I keep my stereo in my garage in a tight spot and it seems to get pretty hot. The muffin fans I see all have to be hooked up in such a way that a klutz like me would probably burn down the garage. Anyone know of one I can just plug into the wall?

Thanks for the offer Steevo. I'd really like to find something ready to go. Radio Shack doesn't have them any more.

Lowe's has a ready-made heavy duty cord with plug in. I ended up scrapping a project so I just added the female end and made mine into a short extension cord that I use now for leaf blower so that short stubby cord doesn't keep coming unplugged !! I keep the leaf mulcher attachment on it, so last thing I want to mess with is always plugging in.

Drop by Lowe's if you can't find what you want in cords elsewhere.

I have a cabinet full of two prong cords cut off old broken appliances. Can I just cut the terminals of the fan, twist on the wires, and tape 'em up? I have a half dozen places I could use a little flat fan.
You could, but it would be better to solder and shrink wrap them.

Twisted and taped connections tend to pull apart over time and/or corrode leading to a high resistance connection which could get hot and start a fire.

Go to a store that sells wood stoves and accessories, they stock them (owners put them in corners to move the stove's heat into other rooms and areas.)

DC 12V 0.16 A

Can I use an AC adapter to run these? I have two
12VAC 1000mA
12V 100mA

Neither of those will work. The first is AC output and the fans require DC. The second isn't powerful (not enough current) enough.

1000mA = 1amp so that one could run it. The other one can't.

No, an AC output won't work.

Why one might ask?

Small fans like this take the DC input voltage and convert it to six phase AC to run the motor (yes, most are six phase!) You could add a rectifier and filter but it's not worth the effort.

Either hit the flea market and get a DC 12V 1000 MA (1 amp) or better wall wart, or the right fans.

Good catch... I must have read over the "ac" part
